The Asilir are the smallest and weakest of the tribes. They lost a tribal war with the Umir and were almost wiped out entirely, losing more than two thirds of their number. The remaining five thousand Asilir natives were driven from the island of Jaebus and fled to the tiny isle of Ith. This defeat happened 20 years ago... recent enough that most of those who fought and lost the war with the Umir are still alive and now are the ... elders of the tribe.
Their defeat has deeply affected their culture. Once a happy and vibrant people, they are now driven by resentment and a thirst for revenge. The elders have poured their hatred into the next generation and now all Asilir, even the youngest, see it as their duty to wipe the Umir from the face of the world and to retake the island of Jaebus. Indeed, this tribe is absolutely focused on that one goal.
The Asilir live in large thatch roofed rectangular huts that sit on stilts above the uneven ground. They fish the waters around their island and hunt and gather in the forest. The word “Asilir” means “puma” in Temegaru language. This is because the Asilir use pumas as cats and trained hunting animals. They lost many of their puma pets in the war with the Umir. However, enough pumas survived and the Asilar are slowly rebuilding their numbers. To them, their puma are holy. This is because the god they worship takes the form of a puma.
Though still too weak to avenge themselves upon the Umir, they have made remarkable strides in recent years. Three years ago, the tribe discovered underground ruins on the island that included chambers filled with strange wonders and powerful magic. They believe their puma god has led them to this place and that they were meant to find it. The Asilir are exploring and excavating these ruins and studying the strange mystical objects they unearth. They are hopeful that the strange magic from these ruins can be used to make them strong again. Indeed, several of the strange objects brought up from the buried chambers are powerful weapons.
The Asilir have kept their subterranean discovery a secret and will fiercely guard their new found treasure. They will sacrifice every member of their tribe in battle before giving up it up.
